Laura Vandervoort (Smallville, V) is back on TV this month with a new holiday movie – ABC Family’s Desperately Seeking Santa. The film premieres this Sunday, November 27, at 8/7c.

Vandervoort plays Laura Walker, a shopping mall marketing executive who has more than a little in common with Ebenezer Scrooge. Gunning for a promotion, she dreams up a new plan to bring in customers: a search for the hottest Santa in town. Will a hunky Kris Kringle melt her cold heart?

“It’s a great family film,” Vandervoort says, “but it’s also a very romantic, sweet story between these two very different people. She is the Scrooge of the film and she’s very focused on making it up the corporate ladder and she doesn’t realize what’s right in front of her, which is true love and family, which she doesn’t have.”

The light romantic comedy is a big departure for an actress best known for her sci-fi roles.

“Honestly, the fact that she was human was a small portion of the reason I chose to take it,” admits Vandervoort, “because I’d been playing so many out of this world characters.”

“…Sci-fi can be very serious, especially with V, we didn’t show emotion. So this film was a huge transition for me. It was nice to do these romantic scenes, it was a change for me and it was a lot of fun and it shows a different side of me.”

Vandervoort recommends the film for anyone looking to enjoy a little holiday spirit. “If you love Christmas films,” she says, “and you love that warm feeling watching them—your heart feels joy and you want to sit there with family, this is a great film.”

Desperately Seeking Santa not in December, but November!!

October 13th, 2011 Jan No comments

This year, “Countdown to 25 Days of Christmas” will feature the ABC Family original movie premiere of “Desperately Seeking Santa” on Sunday, November 27 (8:00 – 10:00 PM ET/PT). Laura Vandervoort (“V,” “Smallville”) stars as an ambitious young marketing executive who dreams up the ticket to Christmas sales: a sexy Santa contest. Teenage girls and their moms flock to her mall when the gorgeous winner of the contest becomes a local hero, sending sales through the roof. She counted on this new Santa to win her a promotion – not win her heart, complicate her life and question everything she ever wanted.

1 day before the birthday of LauraVandervoort.org and 3 days before my birthday! What a treat… if it aired here in my country too. Muah, Muah.

The Entitled Review

What a GREAT movie!

This was definitely not your typical thriller. Laura did great in the movie even though she wasn’t a ‘tough’ character we all know and love like Kara or Lisa. Nope. She was different in this role and she did it brilliantly!

If you want a nice girl, there’s plenty to choose from out there.

After Hailey had taken a round of Coke and offered a round for her childhood friend and then blows it off her hands! LOL.

Also, OMG, how many times was the word “fuck” in the movie? It’s like a drinking game! I only had one drink so I didn’t play that drinking game but maybe for a future rewatch ;)

One thing had me totally surprised, not sure if others had picked up on it, around the end of the movie. There is a visitor at the door (twist#1) and everyone is in the room while that guy lights up a cigarette by striking up a match.

I swear that I thought Hailey recognized the sound of that match! So I was like she knows it’s him! But as it turns out in the special features, they couldn’t see a thing nor hear a thing! (Okay, you’d expect they couldn’t see a thing but hear a thing as well? Maybe if you concentrate really hard like Kara’s superhearing…)

As for the alternate ending… there’s only one added short scene so it’s not really much of an alternate ending to me. I was expecting something of only one survivor out of the kidnapped teens (Hailey) but no dice.

I would absolutely recommend the movie to everyone!

In Other “The Entitled” News…

WOOOHOOO!!!!

*pops bubbly* (and that’s before I’ve seen it!)

The Entitled is #4 on IMDB!!!

Here is what other sites have been saying about The Entitled.

The Screenhead Ten Scale gives The Entitled a full ten out of ten, and wholeheartedly recommends it. This is some fantastically screwed-up crime drama that may start out a bit sludgy in the motivation department, but at the end will leave you breathless and cheering due to the sheer intricacy of the plot.

YesWeekly:

William Morrissey’s script offers a good share of twists and turns, put across with swift assurance in Aaron Woodley’s tight direction and with a big assist from a first-rate ensemble cast. A sure bet for suspense fans, The Entitled is a keeper.

Laura Vandervoort Talks: The Entitled

Actress Laura Vandervoort discusses her role in The Entitled, working with actors such as Ray Liotta and Kevin Zegers, future projects, and more

Actress Laura Vandervoort is no stranger to fans of genre TV fare such as Smallville, where she played Supergirl, and V, where she took on the alien role of Lisa. Fans of this gorgeous Canadian actress will see her in a completely different role in The Entitled, which was released on Blu-ray and DVD September 6. The actress took time out of her schedule to speak with me about her role in this new thriller, where she plays one of three socialite children who are kidnapped for a hefty ransom by Kevin Zegers’ character (Dustin Milligan and John Bregar portray the other kidnapping victims). Here’s what she had to say below.
